  1. Zinciriye Medresesi

The alluring  Zinciriye Medresesi is the old theological college in Turkey. It was founded back in the year 1385.  Zinciriye Medresesi is one of the best places to visit in Mardin, all thanks to the historic beauty. The complex consists of a mosque, 2 inner courtyards, and a mausoleum. This architectural beauty should not be missed, this building replicates the Islamic artistry and their creative side.

  1. Forty Martyrs Church

This is the oldest church in the town which was built in the 4th century.  The church welcomes tourists to have a look at their beautiful interior and have a word with the caretakers. The beautiful decoration is breath-taking and the entrance consists of carvings of Christian martyrs of Cappadocia.

 

  1. Mardin Castle

The magnificent Mardin Castle is located above the town on the rocky setup. The steep path leads to the fortress, the entire experience is super thrilling and you should not miss it. It is best to begin the journey in the evening so that you don’t get exhausted due to scorching heat.

Here at Mardin Castle, you can explore the inhabitants of refugees during the attack. The Mardin Castle welcomes you with 2 carvings of magnificent lions on the gateway.

 

  1. Deyrulzafaran

Deyrulzafaran is a spectacular monastery which replicates Syrian Christian culture and their rich heritage. The monastery consists of 3 churches and is surrounded with high walls which looks similar to the fortress. This building was constructed in the 5th century and have seen 2 massive attacks, once by the Persians and then again by Tamerlane.

When you are at Deyrulzafaran don’t miss to visit the Sanctuary chamber, it is an underground chamber which accommodates 300-year-old wooden throne and alluring floor mosaics. The Deyrulzafaran is in a marvelous construction which displays old Bibles and a Cellar preferred by Sun worshippers.

  1. Dara

The Dara is one of the hidden attractions in Turkey, this archaeological site encounters a handful of visitors each year. The archaeological work is in progress, the highlight is an irrigation and aqueduct system.

The place is surrounded by huge towers which are used to store water. You can stroll down to  the towers and have a detailed look. Dara is located 40 kilometres aware of the Mardin city.
